Plusnet’s existing broadband customers get 2GB extra data per month
✔ 2GB bonus data for broadband customers
Plusnet Mobile are a network that reward loyalty. If you’re an existing Plusnet broadband or home phone customer you’ll get a better deal on their SIM only plans.
The scheme is called “Mates Rates” and they’ve been offering it for years now. We rate it highly as a benefit that rewards customers’ loyalty.
Existing broadband or home phone customers get an additional 2GB on top of their plan’s regular data allowance. This benefit isn’t available to customers who aren’t on any of Plusnet’s other services.
While a new customer might get 2GB for £6 a month, a broadband or home phone customer would get 4GB for the same price. Keep reading to see more information on the scheme:

Who qualifies as an existing customer?
Being an existing customer means having a Plusnet broadband or home phone deal (or both) before signing up on one of Plusnet’s SIM only plans.
But the bonus doesn’t just apply to the broadband account holder. Up to five other users can be registered to the account, meaning you can all benefit while having your own mobile accounts.
All you have to do is give your Plusnet username and your postcode when joining on a mobile plan. This can be done whenever, you don’t have to set it up at the same time as setting up your home services.
At the checkout you can enter a different delivery address to the one you registered for your home services. This is handy if you want to get a SIM deal for someone who lives away from home, like kids at university.

You can still get Mates Rates even if you cancel broadband
✔ You won’t lose Mates Rates if you cancel your broadband
While you need to be an existing home service customer to get Mates Rates in the first place, that doesn’t mean you have to stay on these services forever. You can keep getting the benefit so long as you stay on Plusnet mobile.
So if you don’t want to be tied down to a specific home service provider then you don’t have to worry. You’ll keep getting your extra monthly data even if you ditch them for broadband.
Not only do you have the flexibility to change broadband providers whenever, but their rolling 30-day SIM only contracts means you can change your plan much more easily if you’re not happy with your tariff.

Plusnet broadband customers get no mobile service discounts
✔ Some mobile networks give discounts to broadband customers
Plusnet Mobile are already one of the cheapest options for getting onto the EE network. You can look at our comparison of Plusnet Mobile SIM only prices for more information.
But that means there’s no exclusive discounts for existing Plusnet customers, something that providers like BT Mobile do, offering straight up discounts for existing BT broadband and home phone customers.
However, we’d argue Mates Rates is sort of like a discount anyway, even if you don’t directly get money off. Here’s why:
Say you only use up around 4GB of data per month. As a non-existing customer you’d usually have to take the pricier 4GB plan, but as an existing customer you can take the cheaper 2GB plan and get the same amount of data.
