We look at the fine print of Lyca Mobile's new 88GB SIM plan that's been launched to celebrate Chinese New Year, to see if it's right for you. Last updated: 5th March 2024.
Lyca Mobile's Lunar New Year SIM deal
An extraordinary amount of data for a low price
Don't be confused by the Chinese style branding and international minutes, Lyca Mobile's 88GB deal is perfectly good as a UK-only plan. You could quite easily never use any of the Chinese benefits.
On a 1-month plan, with no contract, you get unlimited UK minutes and texts and 88GB of full-speed 5G data via the EE network. Why all the 8s? It's a Chinese symbol of prosperity:
It's huge value. And there are no tricks to the deal. The plan is set up to auto-renew when you buy. And the monthly price will stay the same until at least next April, on our latest info.

Even better value if you have family in China or Hong Kong
As a bonus, the deal also includes unlimited minutes to China and Hong Kong landlines and mobiles. That's going to appeal to a large number of people given the low £8 price.
You'll also get 100 minutes to EU numbers too. EU roaming is also included up to 12GB per month. So it's a really good international deal from Lyca.
Price-wise, at the time of writing, it's unbeatable if you look for plans with 80GB or more, especially when you consider there's no contract to sign:
88GB is a huge amount of data too. Many people wouldn't even be using that home on their broadband connection, even with streaming.

Lyca Mobile are a good provider to join overall
We joined Lyca Mobile for real for our full review of their network and we're generally pretty impressed with them, especially given the bargain basement pricing of their deals.
They work on an excellent network in EE (although there are a few differences). We were very impressed with their eSIM service. It means you can join Lyca practically instantly or use them as a second SIM if your device has eSIM.
