Vodafone provide one of the best mixes of 4G and 5G data signal of all networks (read our review here). But the high cost of their plans might put you off joining them directly.

But before you rule Vodafone out entirely, it can be worth checking Carphone Warehouse for Vodafone SIM only or phone contracts. They offer better priced deals, directly on Vodafone, often with added cashback offers.

But if these don’t appeal to you then you can look at the smaller providers that use Vodafone’s network. Some of these offer extra benefits or lower prices than their hosts. We go over all of them in this guide.

Who uses Vodafone?

What we like:
Green plus sign Cheap, flexible deals with EU roaming
Green plus sign Identical 5G/4G/call coverage
Green plus sign Vodafone’s best speeds on 4G/5G

What we don't like:
Red minus sign No particular added benefits
Red minus sign No phone contracts

We rate Talkmobile among the best alternatives to joining Vodafone directly. We’ve tested their coverage and speeds vs Vodafone and found no built-in differences at all.

You’ll also get useful features like WiFi calling and 4G calling on Talkmobile, which help you stay connected, where conventional call signal is poor. Their telephone customer service is great too.

The extras you get as standard are better than Vodafone too. You get EU roaming included on every Talkmobile plan, which is something that Vodafone restrict to their higher-end plans.

And that’s before we’ve mentioned that Talkmobile’s deals are significantly cheaper than Vodafone. Plus they’re mostly on 1-month plans, giving you way more flexibility than long-term contracts.

VOXI are another great alternative owned by Vodafone

What we like:
Green plus sign Identical coverage/speeds to Vodafone
Green plus sign All plans come with WiFi/4G calling
Green plus sign Cheaper plans with more benefits

What we don't like:
Red minus sign No inclusive EU roaming
Red minus sign Online only customer service

VOXI were set up and are owned by Vodafone, so it’s no shock that they offer full access to their parent’s network. In fact your phone will just display your network as “Vodafone” when you pop in your VOXI SIM.

You get the same 5G/4G and 2G call signal as being on Vodafone, similar WiFi calling and 4G calling schemes and identical data speeds to Vodafone (see the results of our VOXI vs Vodafone guide).

In our review of VOXI we said customers will like their lower costs, the flexibility to change plans each month, the lack of credit checks and their Unlimited data benefits. But they don’t include EU roaming any more.

VOXI also offer very flexible phone deals, but they don’t always beat Vodafone on price for these so it’s worth checking beforehand. Use our comparison tool here to find the best phone deal for you.

ASDA Mobile are another good value alternative

Same 5G/4G/2G signal as VodafoneCheck for yourself

at mobile.asda.com

What we like:
Green plus sign 5G/4G/2G signal is identical to Vodafone
Green plus sign Great value on SIM only plans
Green plus sign Extra rewards for ASDA shoppers

What we don't like:
Red minus sign Speed limits on unlimited plans
Red minus sign Not a lot of extra network features

ASDA Mobile are another provider that piggyback off Vodafone’s network, with full access to their 5G/4G/2G signal. They offer some of the lowest priced plans around on 1-month, 12-month and 24-month deals.

Historically they’ve always been a bit of a low-frills option, but they now offer a good number of benefits on pay monthly. The first is data rollover, letting you keep leftover data from one month to another.

They also have a new scheme called ASDA Rewards that automatically puts a percentage of your monthly bill into a cashpot. This can be used to get money off ASDA shopping and can be really handy with boosted offers.

You even get more-advanced features like WiFi/4G calling on ASDA Mobile too. And there’s no credit check to join on any of their plans. ASDA are a surprisingly good choice all-round on the Vodafone network.

Lebara have cheap flexible plans with international mins

Lebara All In One plans

Same coverage as being on VodafoneSee their plans

at lebara.com
(opens in a new window)

What we like:
Green plus sign 5G/4G/2G signal is the same as Vodafone’s
Green plus sign No credit checks on any plans
Green plus sign Best network in the UK for international calls

What we don't like:
Red minus sign No way to join on a phone contract

Even if you’ll never make a call to a country abroad, Lebara are a low-cost and flexible alternative to being on Vodafone, offering the same 5G/4G data and 2G call signal as their hosts.

They offer both pre-paid 30-day plans and better value 12-month SIM only contracts. These both come at low monthly costs and include a different number of international mins to these countries.

And you use your Lebara SIM in these EU countries and in India at no extra cost. They don’t include roaming in any other destinations, but their roaming scheme is still one of our favourites of all networks.

Finally their WiFi/4G calling is very similar to Vodafone’s which is certainly a good thing. The only downside is they don’t offer any phone contracts at all, unlike the providers above. Still, they’re great for SIM only.
