Useful information about EE’s phone contracts

Brilliantly flexible phone contracts based on finance

Device credit agreement

Pay off your loan at any pointRead their guide

at ee.co.uk
(opens in new window)

EE offer lots of phones on flexible credit agreements (basically loans) that split the cost of paying back your phone and usage plan (mins, texts, data) into separate bills that make up your monthly payment.

This means you can pay off your loan at any point to upgrade to a new device, no need to wait until your contract is over. And you can choose to pay off your phone over 24 or 36 months to suit your budget.

The cost of your phone stays the same no matter which you choose. But you will have to stay on your usage contract for 24 months. And there’s no way to switch to a smaller plan until your contract is up.

It’s worth noting that EE’s higher end usage contracts come with premium benefits called Inclusive Extras. We go into this in more detail below. Overall, EE offer decent flexibility on their phone contracts.

Other handy things to know about their phone contracts

Early termination fees for phone contracts

You will have to pass a credit checkHow they work

at ee.co.uk
(opens in new window)

To join on any EE phone contract you’ll have to pass a credit check. This is where EE look at your history of making payments to decide whether or not they think you can reliably pay them back.

We don’t have any insider information and can’t say exactly how strict they are. But the fact that they’re buying and shipping you your phone with the expectation you’ll pay them back means they’ll be quite strict.

If you want to cancel your contract early you’ll have to pay off what’s left of your loan and an early termination fee for your usage contract. You can see how they calculate this fee in their guide here.

Your phone will be delivered within 1-3 working days depending on when you order it and where you live. You can read their full guide to their deliveries here to find out more.

If you’re moving over to EE from another network and want to keep your number you can request a PAC from your old provider and send it to EE at any point. Then they’ll port your number over for you.

Other benefits of being on EE

Excellent signal, 5G and some nice premium benefits

EE coverage map

Widespread urban and rural 4G signalCheck near you

at EE.co.uk
(opens in new window)

EE provide signal for calls (2G/3G) and data (4G/5G) using their own network. They provide call signal in most of the places people live and offer the best 4G coverage of all UK networks.

They claim to have 5G live in 330+ locations. But they only claim a location as covered once 5G is available in 50% of its area, so you can get 5G in more places than that, just with less widespread signal.

Opensignal measured typical 4G data speeds of 47.7 Mbps on EE. But 5G speeds have taken a downturn, as Opensignal and Speedtest measured typical speeds between 108.91 Mbps - 122.3 Mbps and peaks of 272.77 Mbps.

If you join on a plan with Inclusive Extras you can choose benefits like their Roam Abroad pass, a subscription to TNT Sports and more. And EE also include network features like WiFi calling and eSIMs as well.
